"They found me at seven with my mother...my wolf mother. I will never forget the pain in my heart as I lay cuddled close to my wolf mother's dead body, mourning the loss of her life. My siblings and I were taken away. I would never see them again no matter how much I called for them. I hate them, the humans... They killed my mother, took away my brothers and sisters, and brought me to the doorstep of a man and woman I do not know."
-Azura (Ah-zu-rah) Hanson
Blessings, I am the author of Feral, one of my favorite short stories. I usually can read this in less than a day. Yet, the story and the characters live vibrantly in my mind. For October, we will shine the spotlight on Feral and behind the scenes of this story. First, I would like to really introduce to you Azura and her unique personality. Azura is a feral child lost at the age of two and found at the age of seven. Being lost so young, her body took on some transformations for her to survive in the wild. One of the noticeable differences in her eyes. She was born with thick curly blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes. Still, her mother notices when Azura is returned to them that the shade of blue has now changed with added darker blue spots.
The story takes place in modern times, yet because of the parent's old-fashion nature, they raise their seven daughters as if they are still living in the 1800s. Albert Hanson is a successful businessman who met and fell in love with Amelia. They are dedicated parents plagued with the guilt of losing their youngest in the wilds of the Canadian forest. Although they are happy to get what most parents would be deeply grateful for, a second chance with their missing child. They are forced to understand that she is not the same sweet baby they once knew. Despite therapy, she barely fits in with society. As the parents grow older, they fear who will take care of their daughter. Seeing that they married off six of their daughters, Azura was the only one refusing marriage and socially awkward at the very least. The parents team up with close friends to devise a plan to marry off their daughter before it's too late.
Azura is one of my favorite characters; for me, she is sort of a superhero. I enjoyed writing this story, and as with my other books, I allowed the story to write itself. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did. Please leave a review. I would be happy to know what you think of this book.
